We Love Football - Let’s play our way to a better future for our children

We might all love football and quite a few of us play it, but we do also have some real football experts helping us to run the charity. We call them our “Peace Ambassadors” and they act as role models to the children. They teach values such as fair play, team spirit and the importance of supporting each other, as well as passing on their secrets to becoming a great footballer through technical skills training.

Our Peace Ambassadors are predominately retired former football stars. They’ve chosen to support the charity as role models for the participating children, as well as playing in the charity matches, which raise funds for the charity.

“MTG works with entertainment, that’s what we do best and that’s where we can make a difference. Football is entertainment which we broadcast and football can build bridges and cross boundaries. When we created MTG United for Peace we saw it as a way to give something back to the next generation in the communities where we operate.” (Hans-Holger Albrecht, CEO & President MTG)

“I think most of all that it is being present, being there among the young players, play football together and trying to set a good example. It’s important to see that we are a lot of different people and everyone is important for the game to work.” (Erland Johnsen on being a Peace Ambassador)

“For me it’s all about different people, different nationalities, meeting through football. It’s an absolutely fantastic thing to watch children running around playing football, sharing an interest and having a ball. It’s an absolute pleasure to take part in the charity. Football is a beautiful game, it doesn’t matter who you are and that’s what really shows in the tournaments. Everybody is having fun and enjoying themselves!” (David May on being a Peace Ambassador)

We asked our Peace Ambassadors about what they think makes football special. Read some of their thoughts and comment here: What makes football special?
